Bac-Shield™ Inhibits Bacterial and Fungal Growth in and on Treated Articles
Bac-Shield™ is the anti-microbial product of Chem-Tex Laboratories.
Bac-Shield protects treated articles against bacterial growth, fungal growth, mold and mildew.
Ordinary cleaners and disinfectants offer no protection to materials after treatment, leaving them vulnerable to recontamination. As well, these treatments are often toxic to humans and bad for the environment.
Bac-Shield “fills the gap” between cleanings by inhibiting the growth of bacteria, mold, mildew, and fungi that cause odor, stains, discoloration, decay and deterioration of the treated materials.
Bac-Shield’s active ingredient is chitosan, a derivative of formerly wasted snow crab shells, an abundant and replenishable natural resource with a long history of safe and effective application. Chitosan is biodegradable and classified as Category III on the EPA’s toxicity scale. (PDF of MSDS)
Bac-Shield is registered under the Treated Article Exemption with the EPA and is hypoallergenic - it will not trigger shellfish allergies. Articles treated with Bac-Shield have passed industry standard tests: AATCC-100, 147 and 174.
